Price for change drive and upgrade version

Hi guys,

I am a newbie here. I have a old version xbox 360 (the fat one). I went to shop before, trying to upgrade my console to latest version, but the guy at the shop told me that i need to change my DVD drive. Just want to check with you all what is the standard price of changing a DVD drive and upgrade to new version in malaysia? Also, i heard that when we upgrade to latest version, our console cant play some of the old game, is it true?

why need to change drive, is it because u r on very old fat xbox?
best drive and easiest to flash would be benq,. find a rrod
with benq and use the drive for cheap mod.

its not that OLD game cant play, its just that there is a protection
update, if u have the OLD game ISOs, u can reburn them to the latest
just fine/

but if u buy from s hop, then true, u cant play it, such as battlefield 3.
because shop usually doesnt reburn, they are factory pressed.

there is a step, but changing drive would be for ppl that dont ever want to online gaming,
since changing drive might get u banned. u have to see what version of xbox do u have,
fat has falcon, xenon, jasper etc. tell me yours

Is it possible to do online gaming after we mod our x box? i thought online gaming is for original console only... and if i dont change my drive, it there other way to play game that need higher version?

For your info, i sent my console to the shop for version update before, and they said i need to change the drive to update the version...

Btw, how do i check what drive i am using..

some says u can online gaming, but most is risky.
- put ur thumb in the USB tray of ur xbox FAT, pull it off,
u shud be able to pull off the faceplate of ut xbox FAT.
there is a hole there, se what color of wires in there.

Sorry for replying so late. I have been outstation for some time. Just checked my x box as per your advice. Its a red wire. Also, i been checking price for upgrafe the console by changing the driver. Here in JB area, the price ranged from rm200-280..

unfortunately your drive is SAMSUNG.
u do need to change drive,
suggest u get a benq or liteon.
rm 280 is too xpensive, if its 280,
i suggest u go for JTAG mod.
it shoud cost RM 150 the most.
and lesser if u manage to get benq
or liteon drive, possibly from buying
dead xbox or something. cheers

When you say buy benq or lite on, do you mean buy in a hardware shop, or go to the game shop and ask them to get me a drive with benq?? if buying myself, where can i get one..

I also have question on playing x box online. Is it possible for a modded console to play online? And what about the DLC? Can a modded console play a DLC of the game? I once buy a game with DLC (resident evil5) but when i play, i can only play the original game, not the DLC..

they sell drive that have been salvage from RROD machines, therefore, why dont
u get a RROD machine and get the drive, and maybe some other spareparts along the way.
i bought RROD machine for RM 70 last time, comes with benq, i bought 2 in fact.
gave 1 benq to my fren. 1 i use for ripping originals.

No, u cant do DLC, if u want DLC, u need to JTAG, which is a hard mod,
nstalling chip to your xbox.

a faulty machine, ask the seller whats faulty, asl long as the
DVD is not faulty, u can get it. just make sure its Benq.
liteon is rarely got, since it on Jasper machine which rarely fault.
