Can I use XBox360 as media player?

Hi all,

Noob questions here....I am going to buy a 40" LCD TV, and also a media player (Full HD). MY question is can I use Xbox360 as a media player (that I can plug in my external HD with tons of movies)? Technically, I believed it is possible because Xbox360 is much more powerful than a normal media player like WDTV. But I believed MS already locked the Xbox360?

So, can Xbox360 modded to play mkv, rmvb, avi,.... in Full HD?

I will NOT recommend XBOX as media player. Yes it's powerful, but there's no codec to decode all those files. WDTV Live beats XBOX360 hands down as media player. No fight. XBOX can't play MKV, RMVB and a lot of files. Streaming is a nuinsaince and a pain in the arse and ends up with bad quality videos.

Just buy a cheap Media player....WDTV Live going for RM299 only!

yup, even the OLD xbox is more capable as a media player than 360.
tho old xbox lack power to properly p lay HD content.
