Hi, I own a Wii and have very very very little knowledge on how to upgrade my Wii i.e - how to install USB loader and play from USB hard drive. I really appreciate your advise.

Re: I own a wii. Ask me.
The best wii modding guide for noobs that i can vouch for is https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/
Remember to follow the guide to the letter. Its important.
The first thing you should know before modding your wii is your wii region. For instrustion on finding your wii region, consult the links i gave.
The other things that you should keep in mind is it is not necessarily important to have the latest version of anything. This is not windows where backward compatible is almost guarantee. Sometimes, having the latest version can puts you into trouble.
While there are lots of usb loader, i would highly recommend wiiflow. its easy to use, looks nice, works well and configurable.
As for HDD, i highly recommend fat32 file system over wbfs and ntfs. it is highly recommended to format the filesystem according to your usb loader(in this case, wiiflow), even if your hdd is already fat32 formatted. the reason for fat32 is because fat32 is recoverable in case of data corruption(not so with wbfs) and fat32 doesnt have creating files problem(ntfs could have trouble creating files). plus, lots of wiibrew application thats worth install requires fat32.
i also recommend you to install priiloader(or is it preloader, not sure, just find the latest version)
while you can install new wii theme or any other dangerous application, it is highly not recommended and most of the time, not worth it.
use recommended sds card only or reputable sdcard manufacturer. i use sandisk.
some hdd have problem with usbloader. use seagate or wd. i use seagate 2tb and my in law uses seagate 512gb.
wii is like the apple appstore. low barrier entry for developer. this results is lots of rubbish and junk games. a console is worth having if only the games is worth playing. install only good games on your disk.
wii is at the end of its life and nintendo is ditching wii. get the most out of it while you can.
always remember to read the instruction properly.
thanks.
